Removal of gym passes to Wirral Council Leisure Centres for Veterans of HM Armed Forces

We the undersigned petition the council to register our disagreement at the decision of Wirral Council's Cabinet at its meeting on July 7th 2014 to alter its current provision of free passes to Wirral Council Leisure Centres for veterans of HM Armed Forces. This decision will mean that many veterans currently accessing the free passes will no longer be able to do so.

'This cut in the service being provided by Wirral Council to Veterans of HM Armed Services is not within the spirit of the Military Covenant and is a misconceived attempt at saving money by targeting people who have served to protect the freedoms we all enjoy.

I am a proud former member of HM Armed Forces and am deeply saddened that the withdrawal of this small token of appreciation is being considered by Wirral Council.'

Council response

Thank you for your e petition. We recognise that the decision to target the armed forces concession was a difficult one to make. We are working closely with the Armed Forces group (AMMO) who are supportive of the changes to ensure those who really do need access to the service are doing so.
