Appointment of Chair and Vice-Chair

The Committee will be invited to appoint a Chair and Vice-Chair for the municipal year.

Minutes:

The Head of Legal and Member Services’ representative invited nominations for the Chair.

 

It was moved by Councillor Steve Williams and seconded by Councillor Ian Lewis -

 

“That Councillor Chris Blakeley be appointed Chair for the current municipal year.”

 

The motion was put and lost (4:11).

 

It was then moved by Councillor Treena Johnson and seconded by Councillor Chris Jones –

 

“That Councillor Bernie Mooney be appointed Chair for the current municipal year.”

 

The motion was put and carried (11:4)

 

Resolved (11:4) – That Councillor Bernie Mooney be appointed Chair of the Wallasey Constituency Committee for the current municipal year.

 

The Chair then invited nominations for the appointment of Vice-Chair.

 

On a motion by Councillor Janette Williamson, seconded by Councillor Chris Jones, it was –

 

Resolved (14:0) – That Councillor Chris Spriggs be appointed Vice-Chair of the Wallasey Constituency Committee for the current municipal year.

Members were asked to consider whether they had any disclosable pecuniary interests and/or any other relevant interest in connection with any item(s) on this agenda and, if so, to declare them and state the nature of the interest.

 

No such declarations were made.

Apologies for Absence

Minutes:

Apologies had been received from Councillors Pat Hackett, Paul Hayes and Lesley Rennie and Community Representatives, John Carson, Jenni Jones and Muriel Wilkinson.

To approve the accuracy of the minutes of the Constituency Committee meeting held on 14 April, 2016.

Minutes:

Resolved – That the minutes of the Wallasey Constituency Committee held on 14 April, 2016, be approved.

5.

Any Other Urgent Business Approved by the Chair

Minutes:

Councillor Blakeley expressed his concerns that this meeting had originally been cancelled and then reinstated when the constitutional inconsistency of cancelling the meeting had been brought to the attention of the Head of Legal and Member Services.

 

The Chair responded that she understood the meeting did have to take place and an apology for any misunderstanding had been sent to all the Committee.

She also expressed the hope that the Conservative Group would select a spokesperson in order that the work of the Committee could move forward in a positive manner.
