Meols Drive Conservation Area failure of due process

We the undersigned petition the council to withdraw, reverse, or at the very least, delay the extension of the Meols Drive Conservation Area until a fair and transparent consultation is conducted. It is essential that all affected homeowners are given a proper opportunity to engage in the process and have their views heard.

We formally object to the extension of the Meols Drive Conservation Area (MDCA) on the basis of what we believe to be a deeply flawed consultation process. The failure to properly notify and engage with affected residents in our opinion raises serious concerns about the integrity and validity of the process.
It has become clear, through discussions with neighbours, that none of the affected homeowners were advised of the MDCA proposals prior to last week, nor were they given the opportunity to participate in the consultation. This lack of engagement is in our opinion wholly unacceptable and suggests a significant procedural failure. The inclusion of properties in the scheme is particularly troubling given that:
a) Many of the affected properties are not visible from Meols Drive.
b) In addition to this, many have already been altered with uPVC windows, composite doors, and plastic rainwater goods, raising questions about the suitability and rationale for their inclusion.
c) The designation offers no discernible benefit to these residents.

Furthermore, the suggestion that incomplete Land Registry records are to blame for this oversight is both alarming and unacceptable, particularly given that some of these homes have existed for over a century. This points to a serious failure in due diligence and raises the question of who approved this process without ensuring all affected residents were properly consulted.
In light of these fundamental flaws, we call upon Wirral Council to withdraw, reverse, or at the very least, delay the extension of the Meols Drive Conservation Area until a fair and transparent consultation is conducted. It is essential that all affected homeowners are given a proper opportunity to engage in the process and have their views heard.
