Contract Variation Order Food Waste Collection: Biffa

Under the Environment Act 2021 (Commencement No. 9 and Transitional Provisions) Regulations 2024, published by the Government on 16th May 2024, it local waste collection authorities are now required to put in place weekly separate food waste collections for schools and Council owned offices from April 2025 and from all Wirral residents from April 2026.

The Biffa Contract ends in August 2027. Since the mandatory start date for food waste collections begins during our current contract with Biffa, therefore a variation of the current contract is required to change the current fortnightly collections of household waste that includes waste in one container to a weekly collection of food waste that is to be placed in a caddy that is dedicated to food waste only.
