Decision details

Leasowe Primary School - Age Range

Decision Maker: Director of Children, Families and Education

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

The report seeks approval to publish a Public Notice of the Prescribed Alteration proposal to consult on altering the age range of Leasowe Primary School to establish a maintained nursery class.

Reasons for the decision:

1.1  Leasowe Primary School has held a preliminary consultation with stakeholders on establishing a nursery class. No objections were received by the school.

1.2  Incorporating early years provision into the maintained school would allow children in attendance to be registered as pupils of the school. This would enable the school to ensure communication and administration and adopt a cohesive and consistent approach to learning right through to Year 6. The Council’s Early Years team have carried out a sufficiency survey and concluded that there is sufficient demand for early years places in the area to warrant a nursery class. The proposed change would bring all three schools in this area into the same position with on-site nursery provision. The proposed change would not impact on the school’s admission policy for Foundation 2.

1.3  The proposal requires a formal prescribed alteration to the age range of the school, from 4 to 11 to 3 to 11.

1.4  A Public Notice is required, followed by a four week representation period; the outcome of this would be reported to the Local Authority Decision Maker for a decision whether or not to proceed with the proposal.
