Wirrals Public Crown Green Bowling Greens

We the undersigned petition the council to review any and all plans concerning the removal in whole or part of any and all facilities which are used by Crown Green Bowlers in Public Parks on Wirral. I/We furthermore require that before any decision is made on any public Crown Green Bowling area that Wirral Borough Council meet with officials of the respective Crown Green Bowling Committee on the Wirral to see where agreement on savings can be made which will be of a benefit to not only Wirral Borough Council but to Wirral Crown Green Bowls also.

We understand that savings need to be made but not at the expense of Crown Green Bowls on the Wirral when Golf and Football areas are being saved which do not cover the wide range of the local population as Crown Green Bowls does.

Council response

Thank you for your petition regarding the closure of bowling greens in Wirral, which is the subject of a budget saving option, proposed in November 2012, which would close all of Wirral's public bowling greens apart from those in Birkenhead Park.

The budget savings options were consulted on between November 2012 and January 2013 and the Cabinet considered the feedback, including your petition, on 7 February 2013.

Budget recommendations related to this and other budget options will be made to the Budget Meeting of the Cabinet on 18 February 2013.
