CIVIC MAYOR'S ANNOUNCEMENTS

To receive the Civic Mayor's announcements and any apologies for absence.

The Civic Mayor noted that apologies for absence were received from Councillors Tony Cox, Naomi Graham, Jenny Johnson, Mary Jordan, Joe Walsh, David Brennan, Paul Martin, Leah Fraser and Paul Hayes.

 

The Civic Mayor welcomed the new members to the Council and welcomed all members back to Wallasey Town Hall for the first time since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. He gave thanks to all those who had supported him and the Mayoress during their time in office, with particular thanks to the civic team and his drivers.

 

The Civic Mayor outlined that he had undertaken 220 engagements during his civic year and referred to several of the highlights of these engagements, including welcoming the parents of Andrew Devine, the 97th victim of the Hillsborough disaster to Wirral for the granting of the freedom of the borough to Andrew. The Civic Mayor gave his thanks and best wishes to the incoming Mayor and Mayoress.

ELECTION OF CIVIC MAYOR 2022/23

To elect the Civic Mayor of the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral for the municipal year 2022/23.

The Civic Mayor invited nominations for election of the Civic Mayor for the ensuing municipal year.

 

On a motion moved by Councillor Tom Anderson, seconded by Councillor Janette Williamson and, in the absence of any other nominations, it was:

 

Resolved (unanimously) – That Councillor Jeff Green be elected Civic Mayor of the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral for the 2022/23 municipal year.

 

Councillor Green proceeded to make his declaration of acceptance of office and the retiring Civic Mayor, Councillor Davies vacated the Chair. Councillor Green occupied the Chair. The new Civic Mayor welcomed his guests and spoke to his election.

DEPUTY CIVIC MAYOR 2022/23

To elect the Deputy Civic Mayor.

The Civic Mayor invited nominations for the election of a Deputy Civic Mayor for the ensuing municipal year.

 

On a motion moved by Councillor Janette Williamson, seconded by Councillor Tom Anderson, and in the absence of any other nominations, it was:

 

Resolved (unanimously) – That Councillor Jerry Williams be appointed Deputy Civic Mayor of the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral for the 2022/23 municipal year.

 

The new Deputy Civic Mayor proceeded to make his declaration of acceptance of office.
