Description
‘Improving quality of life and opportunities for all living in North Birkenhead and Bidston’
North Birkenhead Development Trust was established in 2004 to improve the quality of life and opportunities for all living in North Birkenhead and Bidston. We were formed by the community, for the community. We are the community anchor organisation for the neighbourhood.
The Trust currently manages the St James Centre on Laird Street (the bright multi-coloured building) which houses a number of services includes Wirral Met College, St James Library, Bidston and St James Children’s Centre, Miriam Place Day Nursery, and the Open Door Café.
The St James Centre also provides space for the community to meet and for seminars, workshops and meetings.
The Trust also provides the Opportunity Shop on Laird Street and manages the Open Door Café (located within the St James Centre).
A social enterprise and development trust which seeks to make the North End of Birkenhead a better place in which to live, the company is currently controlled by a Board which includes representatives from the local community as well as the public and private sectors. The Board employs staff to manage the company on a day to day basis. Profits are not distributed but are ploughed back into the local community.
The Trust operates to recognised policies and procedures including equality and diversity, health and safety, safer recruitment and safeguarding. Policies are available from the main reception so please ask if you would like to review these.
